Abstract

A novel fluorocarbon surfactant, N-propyl-N-hydroxyethyl perfluorohexyl sulphonamide, was synthesised by the N-alkylation reaction and nucleophilic substitution reaction, while perfluorohexyl sulphonyl fluoride was used as the raw material. Afterwards, the acrylate monomer containing a short perfluoroalkyl chain, 2-(N-propyl perfluorohexyl sulphonamido) ethyl acrylate, was prepared through the alcoholysis reaction with aforesaid fluorocarbon surfactant. Thereafter, the monomer of fluorinated acrylic ester was polymerised with octadecyl acrylate and 2-ethoxyl acrylate by the emulsion polymerisation, and the emulsion of the novel water and oil-repellent fabric finishing agent was formed. The obtained products were characterised by FT-IR and particle size analyser. The results of performance measurement showed that the treated cotton fabric by the emulsion of water and oil-repellent finishing agent had excellent water, oil and stain repellency, as well as good washing durability.
