Abstract
Cylinder sleeves, a key component of drilling mud pump, often wear because of hydraulic friction, although they are made of SiAlON materials. In this paper, a cylinder sleeve of the drilling mud pump was developed under the high-temperature condition using SiAlON ceramic, which is made of Si, Al and SiC. The results show that the density of SiAlON ceramic decreases with an increasing content of SiC, while the porosity does not. Toughness of the SiAlON ceramic samples are ranged between 25 and 55 MPa. The minimum compressive strength is 266 MPa. The addition of SiC can increase the anti-erosive wear of the SiAlON. In terms of physical and mechanical properties, the SiC with z = 2.5 and 10% was finally optimized.
