Abstract

Hot compression deformation behaviour of 4032 Al alloy was investigated at temperature of 653–783 K and strain rate of 0·001–10 s−1. The true stress–strain curves indicated that the flow stress of 4032 alloy decreased with the increase in temperature and the decrease in strain rate. The microstructural evolution of the alloy during hot deformation were observed and analysed using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The experimental results showed that Si particles did not participate in deformation and the main softening mechanism was dynamic recovery. In addition, the hot deformation behaviour of 4032 alloy can be described by hyperbolic sine function.
