Abstract

A novel semiorganic non-linear optical crystal, l-lysine hydrochlorobromide (LYHCBr) dimensions of 1 × 0.2 × 0.2 cm was grown by deionised water by the conventional method. l-lysine hydrochlorobromide crystallises in non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic crystal system with space group P212121.FTIR spectrum analysis was examined to assign the functional groups of the grown crystal. The optical study shows that the crystal has lower UV cutoff wavelength at 208 nm. Thermal analysis confirms that the crystal is stable up to 244.8°C. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the grown crystal were determined at various temperatures in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1 MHz. The mechanical property of the grown crystals was analysed through Vickers microhardness study. The positive photoconducting nature of the sample was verified by photoconductivity study. The Kurtz–Perry second harmonic generation (SHG) study revealed that the efficiency of LYHCBr is 1.91 times higher than that of KDP.
