The BCIG Conference and Annual General Meeting – hosted by The Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service, Leeds, March 27th and 28th 2014

‘A Sound Future: Developments in Cochlear Implantation'

The British Cochlear Implant Group began as an informal gathering of like-minded surgeons in the late 1980's; the constitution being initiated by the late Graham Fraser. The first academic meeting was held in London in 1990 and the first recorded AGM was held in Edinburgh in 1991. Both ‘business’ and ‘academic’ meetings were held twice yearly.

In 2004, these meetings were combined into one annual two day conference. The Yorkshire Cochlear Implant Service has been privileged to host this conference on two previous occasions.

YCIS has recently become known as The Yorkshire Auditory Implant Service (YAIS) in order to reflect the development of other important auditory implantable devices within the UK.

We are extremely thankful to the cochlear implant manufacturers and allied services for their continued support which has enabled us to procure the services of world renowned speakers. The presentations cover all aspects of our multidisciplinary service embracing the theme ‘A Sound Future: Developments in Cochlear Implantation'.

We thank everyone for their contributions. The abstracts submitted have all been peer reviewed. All oral presenters were invited to submit an extended abstract for the supplement, which were also peer reviewed.

We look forward to celebrating the 25th anniversary meeting, which will be hosted by the West of England Cochlear Implant Team in Bristol in March 2015.

On behalf of YAIS Orgainising Committee 2014
