Experiment and analysis of transient mould friction with hydraulic oscillators for slab continuous casting

Pages 157-160 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Lubrication and friction between the mould and strand play an important role in slab quality and operating safety during continuous casting processes. In the present work, measurement was carried out on a slab continuous caster for the purpose of investigating mould friction between mould and strand. Several results are discussed including the periodic variations of mould friction, the relationship between mould friction and oscillating velocity of the mould as well as the variations of related parameters during the changes of casting speed. These industrial experiments indicate the correlation between friction forces and related oscillating parameters and provide the experimental support for the online monitoring of mould friction and the visualisation of the continuous casting mould process.
