Abstract

Johannes Hedwig, in his early publication Species muscorum frondosorum, included 12 species under the genus Phascum Hedw. Phascum curvicolle Hedw. has been effectively lectotypified and P. cohaerens Hedw. was found to have a satisfactory holotype. The previously published typifications of P. alternifolium Hedw., P. muticum Hedw., P. piliferum Hedw. and P. subulatum Hedw. are clarified or corrected herein. Of the remaining species, over 200 years after their valid publication, P. crispum Hedw., P. cuspidatum Hedw., P. nitidum Hedw., P. patens Hedw., P. serratum Hedw. and P. stoloniferum Hedw. are typified for the first time. As a consequence of lectotypification, Ephermerum minutissimum Lindb. is placed in synonymy with E. serratum, and Ephemerum stoloniferum (Hedw.) L.T.Ellis & M.J.Price comb. nov. is proposed. Associated with the typification of P. cuspidatum, the lectotype of Phascum schreberianum Dicks. is designated more precisely herein.
