Abstract

In this study, the spandex mixed viscose fabric was modified by applying a hydrophilic surface finishing agent that contains cellulose. To impart superior hydrophilicity, cellulose fabric was further cationic charge modified through chitosan polymer. The surface finish was coated on the fabric using a plasma modification process. The modified fabric was characterised in terms of crystalline and wettability. The results from the X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analyses confirmed the polymer coated surface finish of the sample. Furthermore, the textile surface finish was capable of withstanding multiple washing cycles.
