Farewell from the Editors

In our last issue as editors, we dedicate our Classics Review to our former mentor and colleague Susan Kent. Sue, who noted our common interest in ethnoarchaeology, gender, and technology, introduced us to one another in 2004. In addition to her impressive contributions to the field of ethnoarchaeology and prolific publications, she was a wonderful person and had a keen sense of people. We will always be grateful that she instigated our enduring and productive collegial relationship. After organizing several conference sessions and editing a book together, we decided to take on a larger project—Ethnoarchaeology.

Six years ago, as novice and eager ethnoarchaeologists, we noted an absence of a periodic venue devoted to our field of study and we began to pitch the idea of a new journal. Mitch Allen at Leftcoast Press, ever the entrepreneur, helped us shape our journal model and provided us with the needed resources to begin publication of Ethnoarchaeology, which will continue to prosper under Maney Publishing. With Mitch’s sage guidance we created an international peer-reviewed journal that focuses on the present position, impact of, and future prospects of ethnoarchaeology and experimental studies. The primary goal of this journal is to provide academic practitioners with an intellectual platform in which they showcase and appraise current research as well as foreground theoretical and methodological directions for the twenty-first century. We have very much enjoyed reading and learning about all the amazing research and theoretical developments in our field and we want to thank all of you (our board, reviewers, and readers) for your dedication to our journal and know it will continue to grow in relevance and impact.

However, after five rewarding years of editing the journal together, we have decided to relinquish it to new minds and hearts. So it is with anticipation and goodwill that we welcome John Whittaker and Kathryn Kamp ([email protected]) to serve as the new editors of Ethnoarchaeology: Journal of Archaeological, Ethnographic, and Experimental Studies.
