Abstract
This research paper is aimed at identifying management gaps in preventing infectious diseases in high-risk areas such as operating theatres in Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Malawi. Like other authors, we support the view that leadership is an important organizational capability and is essential for quality and safety improvement in hospital settings. This does not seem to be the case in KCH. We contend that there are elements (which we call free radicals) that expose management to failure in providing quality healthcare. A two-way solution to the identified health management challenges in KCH is thus proposed.
