Abstract
Three variants of Weigert's resorcin fuchsin stain for elastic tissue were compared with the original. The resulting slides were virtually identical. Thus, the claim for specificity for one variant1 was not confirmed. Since preparation of the dye solution is time consuming and messy, it is suggested that the use of the Chroma preparation is preferable.2 However the recommended staining time can be reduced to 30 minutes and, after staining, the slides should be differentiated for one minute in 1 % HCI in 70% ethanol.
