Staining Technique to Differentiate Mineralized and Demineralized Bone in Ground Sections

Pages 119-122 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

The majority of stains used for routine paraffin sections and 5 μm methylmethacrylate sections do not stain ground sections well. In addition, the stains presently used for ground sections do not distinguish between mineralized and demineralized bone in the same section. This paper describes a rapid staining technique that allows the observation and differentiation of ground sections of mineralized and demineralized bone embedded in methylmethacrylate.
