Qal^c at Ras al-^cAyn: a Sixteenth-century Ottoman Fortress

Abstract

This report discusses the results of a survey of the Ottoman fortress of Ras al-CAyn. The history of the site is discussed and followed by a description of the remains. The architecture of the fortress is considered in the context of related Ottoman buildings. The conclusion is a brief discussion of the fortress' role within sixteenth-century Palestine based on Ottoman records. A report on the stonework forms an appendix to the main article.
