STRAINS ON CADASTRAL SURVEYING IN NIGERIA

Pages 368-378 | Published online: 29 Nov 2013

Abstract

The cadastral surveying system in Nigeria is under considerable strain, mainly because of the high demand for cadastral surveys and the limited resources and cadastral controls. Although the current laws and regulations guiding the practice of surveying have undergone a number of amendments, there still remain a number of changes to be made. Their inflexibility in the past and at present has exacerbated the situation. Other difficulties faced by the system include professional practice by some Surveyors, budgetary difficulties faced by survey offices, the politics of land and the public perception of land surveying. Hence, this paper examines the shortcomings of the cadastral system and ways to improve it thereby diminishing the pressures on it.
