Relationships between Coaches and Parents of Female Field Hockey Athletes

Pages 19-40 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

The present study explored the relationships between coaches and parents of female high school and college field hockey athletes through a qualitative analysis of responses to an open-ended, on-line survey distributed to NCAA Division I, Division II, and high school field hockey coaches. The findings both converge and diverge from the existing literature. However, the most resounding convergence is the belief commonly held by coaches that positive relationships, between coaches and parents of female field hockey athletes, are crucial for both individual athlete and team success.
