"Ain't I a Woman?"

Pages 243-255 | Published online: 19 Jul 2013

Abstract

Black women's concerns and plight remain an afterthought in American law and politics. Title IX, like traditional antidiscrimination law, fails to remedy gender equity for Black women to the same degree as White women in terms of the quality and diversity of participation opportunities. This article examines the impact of Title IX for Black women athletes, coaches and administrators and illustrates the challenges of true gender and racial equality in athletics.
