This supplement to Current Medical Research and Opinion addresses some of the short-term consequences of stopping smoking and their management, providing readers with insight into possible negative consequences of smoking cessation some smokers face, an overview of the research evidence of the clinical management of these issues and tools for guiding patients.
This collection of four review articles, while giving due emphasis to the positive benefits of smoking cessation, covers some of the negative medical sequelae of cessation and their management. Of common nicotine withdrawal symptoms, depression and increased appetite are covered, with other contributions concerning endocrine, cardiovascular and respiratory changes.
