Abstract
This article discusses the importance of playfulness as an indicator of psychological health. The work of Winnicott (1971) and Schachtel (1966) is discussed, and some criteria are offered for scoring playfulness using the Rorschach. Case materials are presented to illustrate aspects of scoring and to illuminate the use of a procedure that asks the patient to provide playful responses after administering the Rorschach using the Comprehensive System.
