An Analysis and Cross-Validation of the Role of Information During Downsizing

Pages 345-364 | Published online: 17 Nov 2009

Abstract

The primary purpose of this research was to develop and test a model of the role of information during downsizing to evaluate military downsizing policy and implementation. Covariance structural modeling was used to test whole models of relations, and a holdout sample of data was used to cross-validate results. The results of the study support a complex set of interrelations among demographics, downsizing information, and survivor reactions to downsizing, and they indicate that access to information about downsizing directly and indirectly influences survivor reactions to downsizing. The primary recommendation is to inform personnel fully about the plans and criteria for downsizing in a timely manner to enhance positive survivor reactions.
