Outcomes of a Drug Prevention Program for Young Children

Pages 163-169 | Published online: 18 Nov 2009

Abstract

The increasing perils of drugs for children and youth have become evident. A drug education curriculum was implemented with Head Start preschool children and their parents. In this report the focus is on whether children acquired information concerning concepts related to drugs, drug abuse, and consequences of using drugs. Though actual behaviors related to use were not assessed, it was possible to assess attitudes and action tendencies of the children with respect to drug use. In general, after completing the program children's attitudes about drug abuse tended to be consistent with program goals.
