Hansen Hsu

Hansen Hsu completed a BS in E.E.C.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1999 and was a software engineer at Apple, Inc., from 2000 to 2005. He completed his MA in history at Stony Brook University in 2007 and his PhD in science and technology studies at Cornell University in 2015. His doctoral dissertation, “The Appsmiths: Community, Identity, Affect and Ideology among Cocoa Developers from NeXT to iPhone,” explores the culture and values driving the work of third-party software developers who write applications for the Mac and iOS devices using Apple's object-oriented Cocoa technologies.
