Stephan Kloos
Stephan Kloos is a medical anthropologist and currently serves as director of the Institute for Social Anthropology at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His work focuses on the development of contemporary Asian medicine, in particular Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan, Mongolian, Himalayan medicine), through the twentieth century up to the present. Having led the European Research Council project RATIMED (ratimed.net) from 2014–19, he continues to critically engage with Sowa Rigpa and other Asian medicines as emerging industries, global health resources, and integral parts of modern Asia. He received his PhD in 2010 from the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley.
