Group Intervention for Children of Recovering Alcoholic Parents

Pages 15-27 | Published online: 02 Oct 2008

Abstract

Nine children whose parents were currently in treatment for alcoholism, and a matched comparison group, participated in a pilot study of a group intervention designed to assist children in coping with personal and family stressors. After six months, children in treatment had significantly improved in self-reliance and had fewer signs of depression. Although they did not improve in self-esteem or social skills, they were within the normal range as compared with their peers.
