Curanderismo and the Treatment of Alcoholism: Findings from a Focus Group of Mexican Curanderos

ABSTRACT

Throughout Mexico and Latin America curanderos or folk healers are often the source of mental health and substance abuse treatment. This article reports on the results of a focus group of Mexican curanderos who shared specific herbal, spiritual, physical, and psychological methods for the treatment of clients and their families who suffer from alcoholism.
