Abstract
In 1996, the University of Delaware was chosen as one of six universities to receive a five-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to combat binge or high-risk drinking on college campuses by using an environmental or public health perspective. This paper identifies the major features of such an approach. Specific strategies which are being employed at the University of Delaware are described, as well as some of the lessons that have been learned. Outcomes that have been achieved are also presented.
