Abstract
In an attempt to reduce barriers to theory-practice integration, the Progressive Adaptation and Integration Model was developed to provide a conceptual base for foundation practicum and practicum seminar. The model describes a process of student development during the foundation year in which the goal is students' progressive adaptation and integration with the social work profession. Students must determine their sense of fit with salient dimensions of beginning social work practice as experienced through practicum and seminar. Using the model, the role of the seminar has been enhanced as a vehicle for delivering instructional content with a focus on teaching integration.
