ABSTRACT
Node-link mapping is a method for visually representing ideas, feelings, and actions. Research has indicated that it can enhance outcomes from drug abuse counseling. The present study extends this research by examining counseling session evaluations collected from probationers participating in 26 group sessions at a residential substance abuse treatment facility (approximately 18 probationers in each session). Sessions were divided into those that involved a large amount of mapping (N = 13) and those that used little or no mapping (N = 13). Participants rated sessions involving more extensive mapping as significantly deeper and as involving more group participation.
