ABSTRACT
This study followed 44 subjects who had been diagnosed as extremely dangerous during placement in an institution for adjudicated juvenile delinquents. Criteria included post-release criminal behavior, sentences imposed for such behavior, and type of crime. Follow-up for periods ranging between two years post-release and more than ten years post-release found that the vast majority had been re-involved in crime; of those who had recidivated, only one had not been involved in a violent offense. Results suggest that for some proportion of subjects diagnosed as extremely dangerous, the likelihood of re-offending criminally, particularly violently, is very high.
