Abstract

This study of Hispanic students enrolled in Social Work courses sought to: determine the relationship between attitudes of students towards older adults based on age and gender; explore the relationship between attitudes about older adults, and the decision to accept a field placement in a geriatric setting, and to explore the relationship between attitudes about older adults and the decision to work with the elderly after graduation. Findings indicated an inverse relationship between advancing age of older adults and favorable attitudes. Planning to accept a field placement in a geriatric setting was also found to be positively associated with planning to work primarily with the elderly after graduation. Those findings have implications for social work curriculum.
