ABSTRACT
Significant volcanic hazards exist for large numbers of people in many areas of the world. The effects of these hazards are systematically reviewed by first considering the direct effects of each of the physical phenomena produced by volcanoes on human health, agricultural and other activities, and then by considering their broader secondary consequences.
