Abstract

Distance teaching offers a solution to adult workers in the fields of Library and Information Science (LIS) to enhance their skills according to the demands of a changing environment. In planning a training program one should consider the characteristics of distance teaching, the needs of adult learners, the advantages and disadvantages of distance teaching, and the impact of the wider environment. Programs should be based on sound instructional design that will include the following: situation analysis, formulation of teaching aims and objectives, actual design, media selection, development of the program, actual training, and evaluation and assessment.
