ABSTRACT

This paper re-examines key concepts in Paulo Freire's popular education approach and their compatibility with social work philosophy and practice on the group and community levels. Freire's vision of the field of social work is explored, and two case studies are utilized to illustrate the application of this approach and its promise for community practice at the dawn of a new century.
