SUMMARY
This chapter discusses strategies to facilitate caregiver self-care from a social work perspective. The functional age model of intergenerational treatment (Greene, 1986, 1994, 2000) is used to explore the context of caregiving, including the developmental course, challenges, rewards, coping methods, and consequences of caregiving for a variety of clients, followed by an exploration of the process of assessing and intervening with the caregiver to foster healthy self-care practices.
