Abstract
Production lot-sizing techniques are very important inputs into MRP/JIT systems to help explain how quantities are calculated, lead times are offset and order released, and receipts are established in modern manufacturing environments. The purpose of this paper is to examine and evaluate different theories of supplier selection and management with regard to their affect on the supply chain. The first section is dedicated to supplier selection. Multiple versus single supplier selection is examined and models and methodologies for supplier selection are presented. The second section deals with supplier management. Several theories of supplier partnering and arms-length management are chronicled and discussed in light of modern manufacturing environmental and best-of-breed concerns.
