Therapeutic delivery of carbon monoxide: WO2008/003953

, MD
Pages 1321-1325 | Published online: 29 Oct 2008

Abstract

The basic claims of this application involve the synthesis and description of manganese carbonyl compounds for the therapeutic delivery of carbon monoxide (CO). These manganese-based compounds can have multiple formulations, which are broken down into four different aspects. Further claims include the use of such compounds to introduce CO to humans or other mammals as well as to isolated or extracorporeal organs. CO has been shown to have potent cell signaling effects, including vasodilation and inhibition of inflammation. Examples of the synthesis and the effective release of CO from these compounds are included in this application. Additionally, in vitro and ex vivo data support the biological effectiveness of these compounds and the merits of this specific class of carbon-monoxide-releasing molecules (CORMs). There are multiple potential clinical candidates from the data presented and future work is expected to develop these CORMs into clinical products for a myriad of pathophysiological processes and disease states.
