Oral retinoids in the treatment of acne

Pages 173-175 | Published online: 10 Jan 2014

Abstract

Acne vulgaris affects 80% of adolescents and is therefore the most common skin disease of that age group. It presents in several forms, from the most simple, such as the comedonian, to the most severe types, such as nodule-cystic and acne fulminans. Synthetic oral retinoids opened a new horizon for the treatment of severe forms of acne. Oral isotretinoin is the medication of choice in severe acne.
