Abstract

Obesity has become a major epidemic of the 21st Century, making the number of obese patients who consult the dermatologist significant. Some cutaneous entities, such as achrocordons, candidosis, cellulite and intertrigo, may exist in the obese patient owing to the increased amount of skin, where the weight placed on the skin and skin structure could contribute to the development of decubitus ulcers and plantar hyperkeratosis. The relationship of acanthosis nigricans and certain malignancies might indicate underlying pathophysiological changes created by the obese state.
