Abstract

In the 1970s, urban geography in the United States was primarily concerned with understanding the development of our system of cities and also with discerning and modeling patterns in the internal structure of the metropolitan area. Hypothesis testing and the application of some rather complex multivariate statistics to census and other survey data were common. This paper outlines the author's personal history in this subfield through this decade.
