Bioscience Education offers a wide range of articles types and this is reflected in volume 12 with research articles, descriptive accounts, short communications and letters, as well as book and software reviews. We are happy to be able to provide such a variety of articles which we hope readers will both enjoy and find useful for their own teaching. The Centre for Bioscience is very much about putting bioscientist in touch with bioscientist and helping them to share ideas. Bioscience Education is a formal way we do this and it is encouraging that each volume brings a healthy submission of papers.
Unfortunately, our satisfaction at the publication of another full volume is tempered by the recent death of our Editor-in-Chief, Professor Ed Wood. Ed was a distinguished academic and an excellent colleague. He was co-founder of the then LTSN Centre for Bioscience in 2000 and was director and subsequently co-director for the Centre until his retirement in September 2006. Following his formal retirement, Ed maintained a strong and supportive interest in our activities, and was Editor-in-Chief of Bioscience Education from 2007. He will be greatly missed by many.
