A Histological Investigation of the Auditory Pathways in Neonatal Asphyxia: A Preliminary Report

Abstract

It appears from this preliminary report that there is a definite loss of cells in the cochlear nuclei of fatally asphyxiated children. The average cell loss as compared with the control material is 48.8 %. The ventral cochlear nucleus had lost 41.8% of its cells, and the dorsal cochlear nucleus up to 65% of its cells.
