Pages 89-93 | Received 06 Jun 1969, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Ears with dry central ear drum perforation following chronic otitis media have been investigated. The sh of the mastoid air cell system has been determined with planimetry of the X-ray picture in 124 ears. The results in this investigation is in accordance with other materials of chronic otitis. Myringo-plasty has been performed in 89 ears, which have been followed up for more than two years after the operation. The tubal function has been determined by the aspiration method in 88 ears. The correlation between size of mastoid air cell system, healing after myringoplasty and tubal function has been discussed. The results show that with increasing size of mastoid air cell systems there will be an increasing percentage of normal tubal function and healing after myringoplasty.
