Abstract

Ten patients with idiopathic vocal cord paresis were subjected to electromyographic examination. By means of a transcutaneous approach, some 20 motor unit potentials from each vocal muscle were identified. The electromyographic pattern showed great interindividual differences. In all patients investigated it differed from the normal pattern in a way indicating a neurogenic lesion. In all muscles investigated there were changes showing that part of the motor units of the vocal muscle was subjected to denervation.
