Abstract
Asbestos bodies were found in digests of basal lung tissue in 43.5% of 200 unselected necropsies in Melbourne, occurring in 44.2% of 138 males who were examined and in 41.9% of 62 females. Attention is drawn to the non-specificity of the term ‘asbestos’ bodies which in turn throws doubt on the significance of surveys of their incidence.
