Abstract
A comparison was made between acid secretion after infusion of peptavlon and infusion of histamine in 20 patients who six months previously had been subjected to vagotomy and pyloroplasty in treatment of duodenal ulcer. The vagotomy was evaluated by insulin test and found negative in 16 cases and late positive in 4 cases. Administration of peptavlon and histamine was made by continuous intravenous infusion for two hours in doses of 0.1/μg/kg/minute and 0.7 μg/kg/minute. No difference was noted in maximal acid output (mEq H+/hour), volume (ml/hour) or acidity (mEq H+/liter). Maximal acid output after peptavlon occurred in most cases in the second 15-minute period, after histamine most often in the fourth 15-minute period.
