Abstract

A review of the Danish contributions to the increased understanding of anorectal physiology and pathophysiology during the last 25 years is presented. In this period there has been a vast international increase in interest in anorectal physiology and pathophysiology, with much improvement in the understanding and treatment of anorectal functional disorders. The application of new sophicticated techniques to anorectal physiology research continues to improve our knowledge of anorectal function.
