Abstract

In an investigation made according to the double-blind technique in 32 patients (21 males and 11 females) ranging in age from 14 to 66 years, the action of a combination of antihistamine and ephedrine on the Eustachian tube function was compared with that of placebo. The investigation was carried out by means of air pressure equalization technique and tympanometry. In the group which received the antihistamine-ephedrine tablets a positive effect was recorded in 11 out of 19 ears, while in the group which received placebo tablets there was a positive effect in 2 out of 20 ears. The difference is statistically significant within the 95% confidence limit.
