Cochlear Hearing Loss Following Rubella in an Adult

Abstract

A progressive sensorineural hearing loss with signs of cochlear and labyrinthine damage occurred in a patient who suffered from a serologically proven rubella infection. On the basis of the clinical and audiological findings it is postulated that rubella virus has the ability to cause damage to the inner ear structures of the adult. To the best of our knowledge this is the first such case to be reported.
