Abstract
An Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) has been in use for the last 2 years in Liverpool as part of the examination in psychiatry for the final M.B. Ch.B. Degree.
This examination (OSCE) replaced the customary clinical 'short cases' and consists of multiple choice questions based on short videotape extracts of patient interviews. Now that initial difficulties have been resolved the format is easy to administer to large numbers of candidates and the results correlate well with performance in the clinical and viva voce examinations.
