Abstract

The authors examined 15 patients with delayed myelination of the optic nerve and pseudo optic atrophy of Beauvieux. Three cases presented with albinism. In one patient the diagnosis of generalized hypomyelination of the brain was confirmed by the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technique.

The prognosis is relatively favourable. Follow-up examinations showed that in the majority of the patients the delay in myelination will be made good. Visual acuity could be measured in six patients and varied from 0.1 to 0.6.
