Horner's muscle plication using an anterior approach

Abstract

The authors propose a new and original surgical technique in order to perform Horner's muscle plication. They use a dacryocystorhinostomy incision with a skin anterior approach. The dissection progresses between periosteum and orbital wall. A double-armed Goretex suture is passed through the tarsal plate and tunneled behind the lacrimal sac to the posterior lacrimal crest. This anterior approach allows a very good control of the procedure. The tension of the suture is easy and the periosteum adhesion is sufficient to obtain a good canthopexy. Any resection of the lacrimal apparatus is avoided. The authors report their results in eight patients.
